Using Social Media To Be a Positive Influence

Social media is a big part of today's society. People of all ages indulge themselves on a daily basis. Actually, many people are so addicted that they can spend hours at a time on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or numerous other sites. This leads to the big debate. Is Facebook being available to people of all ages a bad thing? Some might say yes and others might say no. However, the truth of the matter is it depends on how it is used.

Social media is way to broadcast your thoughts, opinions, and ideas. It doesn’t matter whether its good, bad, right or wrong. You are free to express all your successes , failures, problems and disappointments. We must realize that when we put information on social media it is not just a thought anymore. Some may agree and others may disagree. As the person posting, you must prepare because not everyone will agree with you. So if you are not looking for all types of responses, you should just keep it to yourself. People will definitely give you their honest opinions. Some will be positive and some will be negative. Regardless of the backlash, people don’t mind expressing themselves. Your opinion definitely matters, especially when it comes to the people in your life as well as people in society. We need to be aware of all the issues going on in America. Social media is the next best thing to being there. In some ways, we are moving in the right direction. We will really make a change when using social media to educate people.

Social media can be toxic. Some people use Facebook to argue, degrade people or post inappropriate pictures. That’s when social media becomes a negative influence. If we stop to think, one of our biggest arguments is how the news media reports all the negative issues in society and rarely report anything positive. If you scroll down your feed look at some of the post, we are no different. We do the exact same thing. Where does it end?

 So what's the alternative? Posting positive things instead of negative is a great way to change people’s attitude about social media. There are so many people that post spiritual things, poems, vacation pictures, family photos, holiday events and the list goes on and on. So, let’s change the mentality of social media because it doesn't have to be all bad. Let’s give a big thanks to all the people out there that share their amazing experiences hoping that they will encourage someone else. As we read these positive post, let's begin to share them with each other even more. I know I am encouraged by many things I see on Facebook. There may be something that you experienced that someone may be going through. What better advice can a person have than reading about someone that made it through the same challenge? We need to find new ways to change the mentality of people. So, why not start by cleaning up social media one post at a time.
