The Importance Family Reunions
A reunion is:
: an act of getting people together again after they have been apart : an act of reuniting
: an organized gathering of people who have not been together for a long time
Family reunions are major events in our lives that we should encourage each other to be a part of. The fellowship, friendship and sportsmanship are all factors in our lives that help us develop character.
Family reunions help us form bonds and stay close in our family circle. So once a year we schedule a weekend where the family makes plans and choose a central location to make things happen. Many of us grow up relocate and start lives in other cities, states or countries. We get so occupied with life that weeks months and years go by without going back home to visit. That's why family reunions are so important. It's an opportunity for families to get together and relive the good old days. There will be laughing and joking reliving the hilarious events of the past. You definitely have to pay respect to those that have gone on. Some people don't like to go back in time to remember the past but I believe our past memories are precious. So the next time you have a family reunion scheduled it if at all possible do you best to attend. A family that stays connected will always have that close relationship.
Also family reunions keep us in contact so we can encourage each other to stay focused. There has to be a reason why so many people attach themselves to gangs or other organizations to feel like they are a part of something. Maybe its because they don't have a family connection or don't feel that they are accepted. Growing up with brothers and cousins we hung together and most of the time kept each other out of trouble. As the years passed and we started living our own lives and family reunions would be the best time to see everyone in one place. So if we take advantage of the occasion maybe we can make a difference and reconnect.
Reconnecting with our families and getting family members to get off the streets may be significant in stopping the violence that’s controlling our families and our nation. Am I my mother, my father, my brother, my sister or my family member’s keeper? Absolutely, in
1 Corinthians 13:13 says And now abides faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity (love).
